Goalkeeper signed from Celta Vigo in July 2004. Impressed in his native Spain during the 2003/04 season on loan at Albacete where his performances helped the side stay in the top flight. After deputising for an ill Jans Lehmann he quickly won the respect of manager Arsene Wenger with 11 clean sheets and became a permanent fixture during Arsenals FA Cup and League challenges. Almunia was promoted to number one choice keeper for Arsenal at the start of the 2008-09 season.Captined the team in the abbsence of Fabregas in the past, but is now losing the faith of most Arsenal suppoters over some calmity performances in previous seasons. Could well be on his way out if the praposed transfer for Mark Shwarzer goes through.
