Mikel Arteta

Profile
Spanish midfielder who joined Everton from Real Sociedad, initially on loan, before signing a five-year deal in July 2005. David Moyes moved to sign Arteta after he fell out of favour with Sociedad coach Jose Maria Amorrortu, whose favoured physical approach isolated Arteta's more cultured style. The midfielder, who can support both defence and attack, sought the advice of two other Spaniards on Merseyside - Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia - before making the switch to Goodison Park. Arteta is currently considered to be Everton?s most skilful player and is still hopeful for a call up to the Spanish national team.
