A richly talented defender, Brown has appeared for England at Under-18, Under-21 and full international level. Capable, composed and equally at home in the centre of defence or at right-back, he travelled to the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. He has struggled with a succession of injuries, which ended any chance of him appearing at the 2006 World Cup. Wes Brown has called retierment to his international carrer, and his united carrer is also slowing down and he has now turned in to being cover when the main defenders are out.
