The England internatonal joined United in summer 2007 after almost a year of negotiations with Bayern Munich. The Canada-born midfielder joined the German giants in 1997 and progressed through their youth system before making his first-team debut in 2000. Won four Bundesliga titles with the club and picked up a Champions League winners' medal in 2001. Chose to represent England over Canada or Germany and made his full international debut in 2001. Forced his way from the fringes into becoming a valuable first-team member after some outstanding displays at the World Cup in Germany in 2006.
