Profile

An outstanding former England playmaker renowned for crucial, often spectacular goals. He broke into the first team as a striker but has matured into an all-round midfielder with crunching tackles allied to superb vision. Scholes combines an excellent range of passing and a superb strike rate and is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. Enjoyed his best goalscoring return of 14 during the 2002/03 season, including scoring in six successive matches and bagging a memorable hat-trick at Newcastle United. He followed that up with nine goals in each of the two following seasons, but missed much of the 2005/06 campaign with an eye problem. Voted into the Premier League Team of the Decade in the 10 Seasons Awards poll.
