Jonathan Woodgate

Profile
Centre-back Woodgate joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan from Real Madrid in August 2006. The former Newcastle United and Leeds United star enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top, culminating in his call-up to the England squad at the age of 19. He shows great composure, is adept at taking the ball forward and has fine passing ability. Joined Newcastle from Leeds in January 2003 before switching to the Bernabeu in a multi-million-pound transfer the following year. Injuries have punctuated his career so far, but he will hope to prove at Boro that he is still a world-class defender.
